Doctors frequently receive gifts from drug companies such as mousepads, pens, and stuffed toys. This is known to cause doctors to feel endebted to the company, and to want to reciperocate, say by prescribing the company's drugs.
Less than perfect from the patient's point of view.
Two possible solutions:
1. Doctors stop accepting gifts from drug companies.
2. Patients start giving their doctors mousepads, pens, and stuffed toys.
Ok, so maybe number two isn't going to go down all that well with doctors, but it would make a point. :-P
